Mexico · Puerto Vallarta
Family trip for three couples, all booked on companion fares plus Hyatt points.
Mexico · Multiple trips
Mexico is a destination where sometimes cash beats points — short flights, deep discounts on resorts, all-inclusive packages that already bake in food and drink at a fraction of cash. We've gone multiple times. The Puerto Vallarta trip is the best case study.
Three couples on three separate flight reservations, each using an Alaska Companion Fare from their Alaska Visa Signature card. That gets two people round-trip for the price of one fare plus $99 for the companion. All six of us flew round-trip for the cost of three fares.
Five nights at the all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta for 25–30k Hyatt points per night, per room — three rooms. Status got us upgraded to Club Tower with ocean view and balcony hot tubs across all three rooms. The math: ~150k Hyatt points total, $99 × 3 companion fees, plus three base fares. For a 5-night premium all-inclusive for six people — comically cheap.
